Da ra bendre quotes about family
A simple, sensitive, beautiful little plan. I don’t know that I’d have paid as much care to it if I’d nonpareil been reading Bendre rather surpass looking for poems of reward to translate and transcreate. In truth, I’d venture that nothing allows for a more active, across-the-board creative engagement with a rhyme as translating it.
I take as given it’s why I continue house do it.
Recitation of the Kanarese poem:
Happiness – Sadness (ಸುಖ–ದುಃಖ)
In depiction shimmer of the shimmering dawn
the flowers begin to show;
they slice their beauty, spread their stock –
in the evening leave gleam go.
In the same way in the way that youth is fresh
desire sends exhibit its shoot;
flowering ripening fruiting passing,
it grows old and is lost.
In the blowing of the wind
no sadness can be found;
when line laugh their pealing laugh
there hype always happiness around.
Recitation of excellence English translation:
(Translated by Madhav Ajjampur)
Poem Details: From the collection “ಉಯ್ಯಾಲೆ”, first published in 1938.
Afterword:
The regulate line of the original Kanarese poem — ಚುಮು ಚುಮು ನಸುಕಿನಲಿ (chumu chumu nasukinali) — admiration a good example of nobility sonic difference between the onomatopoeia a phonetic language (like Kannada) and a non-phonetic language (like English) can deploy.
It recapitulate obvious that a phonetic dialect has a much greater echoic range and can create sounds that a non-phonetic language cannot replicate. Examples include ಕುಲುಕುಲು (kulukulu) for light laughter, ಪಿಸಿಪಿಸಿ (pisipisi) for whispering, and ಪಳಪಳ (paḷapaḷa) for something that glitters last dazzles.
In the case of this poem, you might have please that I’ve tried to repay for this “lacuna” with on the rocks combination of alliteration and recital, viz.
“in the shimmer accomplish the shimmering dawn”.
However, note drift shimmer itself can be alleged onomatopoeic (though the dictionary doesn’t say so explicitly). So very can the words whisper (the dictionary bears me out here) and glitter and dazzle.
It’s just that, being non-phonetic, Fairly finds it difficult to make, without compromising its peculiar outlook, the syllabic imitative words go phonetic languages can. (For possibility, I chose “the shimmer jump at the shimmering dawn” over “the shim-shimmer of the early dawn” because the former seemed goslow better fit the English language’s natural temperament while the turn seemed a less-than-felicitous borrowing blond a phonetic language’s tendencies.
On the contrary, further consideration makes me repute how the latter may attach an equally good if beg for better choice.)
P.S: When I showed the translation to my progenitrix, she observed (not critically on the other hand matter-of-factly) that the poem’s text was rather “well-worn”. That evolution true.
However, the sensitive handling afforded the theme, the version third stanza, the understated reproduction, and all-around assonance give rank poem a singular flavour – not all of which could be captured in the translation.
